Today's
scripture: Psalm 40:5
It is impossible to truly describe the wonder of who God is. He is beyond
measure, beyond human comprehension.
His works are incalculable. He was before time as we know it, and He'll be long
after time ends. He has created all things. All things. This universe and its
untold mystery. This earth and its incredible beauty. Each animal. Each person.
Our God is ... indescribable.
Even the psalms, as amazingly evocative as they are, fail to fully define our
God ... because He's ... well, God.
That's what I love about our God. If He could be fully known, He wouldn't be
God. I love the mystery of Who He is. I love that His works can't be, as the
psalmist writes, "recounted" or "numbered."
Instead of knowing Him fully, I can worship Him for His majesty, glory, and
wonder. I can praise Him for the peace and joy I find only in Him. I can kneel
in humble gratitude for His love, grace, and mercy.
And I can stand in awe of Him ... because He is God, the one and only true God.
Today’s
scripture: 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
I love to talk about God’s faithfulness and grace. I love to remind believers
that they are sons and daughters of the Most High King of kings.
And because of His grace and mercy, even though we are not worthy, God sees
worth in us.
When we do what He’s called us to do, when we work to do His will, He looks
upon each of us with fatherly pride. And I believe He longs to say, “Well done,
My child,” even more than we long to hear it.
Doesn’t that just amaze you? That He sees you as His beloved child? That He,
who deserves all glory, is glorified in you?
I think we forget just how truly amazing it is. The God of the universe, the
One who put the stars in place, the One who created all things … This same God
knows you by name. He has a plan for you that is unique (Jer. 29:11). He has
given you gifts and talents that (usually) you enjoy using, but more
importantly, that He uses to grow His kingdom and serve others.
I often say, God doesn’t need us. Not at all. In fact, I think He’d probably do
a lot better without us. But that’s not how He works. He’s not a far-off,
impersonal god. He’s personal, and He wants to work with us to complete His
plan.
And, in His eyes, we are worthy enough to accomplish exactly what He’s
designed.

Today's scripture: Psalm 138:6
Our God is good. His ways are higher than ours; His thoughts are greater than
ours (Job 11:7-8; Isaiah 55:9). He is omniscient and all-powerful. Righteous.
Holy. Just.
He is the Creator of all things with no beginning and no end. He is amazing and
glorious and beyond true comprehension.
Yet, He chooses to know His creation—at least those who humbly call Him Lord.
He "regards" us with love and joy. He looks upon us with fatherly
pride. In fact, He invites us to climb on His lap and call Him Abba ... Daddy.
This truth astounds me. Truly.
Who am I that the God of the universe loves me? I am so fallible and fleshly. I
fail Him time and time again. I so desire to be the woman I know He wants me to
be, but so often I take two steps back for every one step forward.
Yet, He chooses to know me.
To regard me. To love me.
Astounding.
