A Generation Seeking God ... If Only ... (Psalm 24:5-6)

Today's scripture: Psalm 24:5-6

Oh, that we would be “the generation of those who seek Him …”

Yet it seems our society is seeking anything other than Him. Entertainment. Drugs. Sex. Meaningless relationships. Money. Work.

And where has it landed us? In and out of one recession into another. Sky-rocketing divorce rates. Families whose members don’t even know each other.

Our nation, which was founded on biblical principles, is anything but a “nation under God.” And I wonder how long it will be before God completely removes His hand of blessing on us. Perhaps He already has.

But we could experience a “blessing from God and righteousness from the God of [our] salvation.” How? By turning back to Him.

God’s chosen people turned away from Him again and again (see the book of Judges), yet when they turned back to Him, He welcomed them with open arms. I believe He’ll do the same for us.

God spoke these words to the people of Israel … and I believe He speaks the same words to us today: "… if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). We are people called by His name. We just need to seek Him and surrender everything we are to Him. Then He’ll bless us.

Revival and Comfort (Psalm 71:19-20)

Today's scripture: Psalm 71:19-20

Do you ever find yourself in need of being revived? Of being comforted?

You may be thinking: Every. Single. Day.

I can certainly relate.

It seems like, more and more, I need a supernatural revival just to get out of bed each morning. As my various health issues continue to sap my daily strength, I need the strength that comes only through my Lord Jesus Christ.

And those days when I feel lonely or sad or melancholy—and they do come—I know I can crawl on my Abba's lap and seek the comfort of His arms.

That's why I love verses like today's. I'm reminded that the righteous, one-and-only God does "great things" like creating the universe, yet He also takes time for me and my in-the-grand-scheme-of-things minor troubles.

He offers spiritual refreshment. He showers me with abundant blessings. His mercies overflow.

He revives me when I feel down in the "depths of the earth." He offers comfort when I'm hurting.

He loves me. He loves you.

Ask Him for physical or spiritual revival today. Crawl on His lap and seek His comfort.

Our righteous, loving God will give you what you need.

Every. Single. Day.

Let the Nations Know ... (Ps. 9:19-20)

Arise, O LORD, do not let man prevail;
         Let the nations be judged before You.
Put them in fear, O LORD;
         Let the nations know that they are but men. Selah.

(Psalm 9:19-20, NASB)

There’s Steven Curtis Chapman song where he sings, “You are God, and I am not.” Jehovah God is the Creator. We are the created. He is infinite. We are finite. He is Savior. We are sinner.

Yet, we live in a world where a lot of people think they can be their own gods. They are self-sufficient. They are in control. They’re more than mere men—or so they think. But their sadly—and eternally—mistaken.

I believe with all I am there is one God and one only. And I believe with all I am He’s the God of the Bible. There is no other. And man (and I’m using the generic “man”) certainly isn’t god—in any way, shape or form. It saddens me that we live in a nation where God has been neglected or forgotten or outright denied. And it may take God’s having to “put them in fear” for this nation to “know that they are but men.”

He’s chastised nations that have rejected Him in the past. He may just have to do the same with us … and perhaps He already is. Financial crises. Political scandals. Devastating tornadoes. Disastrous hurricanes. Hmmm. Perhaps He’s trying to get our attention.

We need a reawakening. We need a revival. We need to remember that we are "but men."

And that He is God.
