Walkin' AND Talkin' (Philippians 1:27-28)

Today’s scripture: Philippians 1:27-28

“… let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ …”

Today’s verses start with a huge dose of conviction for me—and perhaps for you as well. Is my conduct worthy of the gospel? If someone I know “absent” from me hears of me, would she know I’m a follower of Christ?

Or even more convicting, do nonbelievers see us and see a body of believers who are united? Who are “striving together for the faith of the gospel”? Do they see boldness? Unabashed joy and desire to share God’s word?

Instead, do they see a group of people who are so focused on our adversaries we’re timid? Afraid to tell others of our hope of salvation?

A quote attributed to St. Francis of Assisi says, “It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.”

I pray for all of us that we not only “talk our talk,” but we always “walk our walk.” May our conduct reflect our Lord—always.

This verse reminds me am I living for self and my own ambitions or am I really whole-heartedly living for Christ or better yet, am I seeking His Presence to live through me rather than me getting frustrated by my lack of ability to live for Him. I do know I am not 100%, yet I can press on and look for what He is saying to me today and this verse only reaffirms what I have been wondering about. I could say that honestly some would see some believers as timid focused on the adversaries or even the chief adversary himself, Satan. Yet there is always a remnant and I did see some possible move in my little world with a few believers who are being moved towards unity and I can say, hopefully not proudly, that I made the right choice and spoke out for righteousness to someone at work, not self-righteousness but an acknowledgment of right choices and however slightly, made a slight difference. God bless you all.
